Carlsbad, San Diego County
For about ten weeks each spring, some fifty acres of ranunculus bloom in bands of color on a hillside above Interstate 5 in Carlsbad. The Flower Fields have been farmed here for decades and open to visitors from March into May. The city owes its name to a mineral spring found in the 1880s, said to match the water at Karlsbad in Bohemia.
